Glaciers, ice & winter
Glacier, ice cave & winter filming in Alaska
Mountain Mind Media films on glaciers, in ice caves and through Alaska winters, from -50°F camps to the summit of Denali. Our lead safety manager is an IFMGA mountain guide, and we bring the planes, snowmobiles, power and know-how to keep a crew working in the cold.
What we do
Glacier shoots
Glacier landings in our Super Cub, plus helicopter and snowmobile access.
Ice cave filming
Ice caves scouted and checked by a mountain guide before the crew goes in.
Winter & snow shoots
Real snow for commercials, catalogs and holiday campaigns.
Extreme cold
Camps, power and camera care for shoots far below zero.
Northern lights
Aurora and night-sky shoots planned around forecasts and dark skies.
Mountain & glacier safety
Risk assessments, rope systems, crevasse rescue plans and avalanche checks, led by an IFMGA guide.
Where we shoot
From glaciers an hour from Anchorage to icefields deep in the Alaska Range. We scout ahead of time and pick locations that work for your shots, your crew and the conditions.
Questions
When is the best time to film on a glacier?
It depends on the look you want. Winter and early spring bring cold, stable ice and snow. Summer brings blue ice and long days. We'll help you pick the window.
How do you keep cameras working in the cold?
Warm spare batteries, careful handling to avoid condensation, and gear we've used for years in Alaska winters.
Do we need permits?
Usually. Glaciers sit on public, private and Alaska Native corporation land, and many are reached through private access points. We handle the permits and access.
Is it safe?
Our lead safety manager, an IFMGA mountain guide, writes the safety plan and makes the daily calls on weather and terrain. See our team.
